dyed the mohair yarns this morning

I didn’t get much done last night beyond skeining up the mohair and the cashmere, although I did cook a rather nice steak for me and Mike (we’re getting SO domestic).  But I dyed two batches of mohair this morning, one purple and the other gold.

Some notes on mohair:

  • It takes dye much more intensely than wool – I only needed about 1.5% WOG of dye to get an intense color instead of the 2% I use for wool
  • It doesn’t dye as readily, so more dye stays in the dyebath – I had to dump extra vinegar into the dyebath to get more of the dye to “take” – and even then it didn’t exhaust fully

I have started winding the black silk warp into balls and intend to start winding the warp tonight.
