Well, I went out yesterday and today, despite the FREEZING weather. Did 1:15 yesterday and 1:45 today, mostly rolling hills and flatland with one longish (10-15 minutes) climb on each day. Not much, but considering how cold it was (low 50’s) and that I didn’t really have cold-weather gear, I’m not feeling too guilty about slacking.
I have been trying to take some of Lorri’s advice about training – not gearing down too quickly on hills, practicing countersteering on gentle curves, riding in the tops going uphill and in the drops going downhill, and so on. I’ve also been working on some of her suggestions for building power, although it’s been really difficult to motivate myself since my interest in cycling right now is hovering somewhere between zero and none. I would probably feel different if it were 70 degrees out, but 50 is unpleasantly cold, especially when going downhill in the foothills, where it’s colder yet.
Yeah, I’m a wimp about winter weather. I’d much rather stay indoors where it’s warm.
Meanwhile, Lorri and I are doing a power test on me on Wednesday. Stay tuned, I’ll post the results.
