Sunday's ride

Three hours, low to moderate intensity. I had planned to ride in the high end of Zone 2 with the occasional excursion into Zone 3, but quickly discovered that Saturday’s ride had taken more out of me than I thought – I could barely make it into the middle of Zone 2, and that with effort.  After a brief period of frustration, I readjusted my plans and decided I was out on a three-hour bike stroll rather than a “training ride”.  (You can’t make your body do what it isn’t going to do.)

I also revised my route – I had planned to include the hill at Alpine (a nice 20-minute climb at 4-6% grade (I think)) but decided to stay on the Portola Loop, which is a very gradual incline with 2-3 rolling hills.  I managed to ride those just fine, albeit slowly.  It was a beautiful ride – gorgeous spring day with everything blooming.  (Fortunately, I don’t have allergies!)

I’m a bit miffed that I don’t seem to be recovering as fast as I’d like, but considering what I was up to yesterday, I suppose I’m not too surprised.  Clearly I will have to work on this some more.
