By a minor miracle (and many, many repeats of the “redial” button), I have managed to get reservations to The French Laundry!! (And on the first day of trying, at that.) I am ecstatic. What a lovely two-day-post-birthday present from the universe!
Now, it might seem a little strange to be ecstatic over the opportunity to have the privilege of plunking down $240/plate (not including wine!) for a nine-course dinner, but The French Laundry is commonly considered the top restaurant in the country, and getting reservations is DAMN hard. Last time I tried, I had to redial for five days straight in order to get reservations, so getting through on the first time is really damn lucky. And the food is beyond fantastic – it’s a whole new level in food magic. Thomas Keller talks to God, and his pastry chef is fantastic. It’s worth the money, if only to discover the astonishing things that can be done with food in terms of getting the perfect juxtaposition of flavors and textures.
I’m not communicating it very well, but basically the food is out of this world. 🙂 And Mike and I will be going there at 5:45pm, September 1.
YAY!!!!
