An orgy of dyeing

I and about two pounds of yarn showed each other a really good time last night.  🙂  I dyed 750g of linen yarn for the warp-painted samples, and about 250g of cashmere-silk yarn in batches for the brown and tan warp.  The linen yarn came out incandescent orange-gold, which is a bit brighter than what I had in mind, and the cashmere/silk yarn came out a lovely shade of goldenrod and a beautiful garnet red.

I’m not sure what to do about the linen yarn – it’s really too bright and too intensely orange to go with the sober maroons and blues of the painted warp, so I may try overdyeing it with a very pale blue to tone it down a bit.  And then again, I may not.  It’s very tricky to get level colors with pale shades, and it’s also easy to overdo it with blue and get brown – so I may just leave it as is.  I’ll probably weave a small sample once the maroon/blue warp is on the loom, and then decide whether to overdye.

Interview yesterday went well; I like the company a lot and hope they make me an offer.

Today I’m going over to see a weaver’s stash – she is retiring from weaving and is selling off all her yarns, including some fine silks and mohairs.  Should be interesting what I come home with.  🙂

I always think it’s so sad when I see people retiring (as opposed to losing interest or moving on from) various crafts that they have obviously been passionate about. It must be nice though when they sell some of their stash to someone who will really put it to good use.
