Just spent the last two hours messing around with the MySQL database for my proto-project-repository. Thanks to the automated table generator that Laritza pointed me at, creating the database (which is only a couple tables) was relatively easy; now I’m populating it with sample data. After that I get to read through another couple hundred pages on how to use PHP to access MySQL databases, and I’m totally set. Uh, something like that. At least, I’ll be able to get started. (This project keeps getting bigger and bigger every time I look at it! but I am persevering.)
Went to my first Loom & Shuttle Guild (the local San Francisco weaving guild) meeting today, where I got a warm welcome and got to see a very nice presentation on ikat textiles. I think I will be joining them. I also got introduced to several members of a group that is working through The Woven Pixel (among other things), which I will probably also join. That plus this study group on Exploring Multishaft Design should keep me busy for awhile. Oh yeah, and AIDS Lifecycle. Still gotta sew a bunch of costumes for that, not to mention training. And did I mention the project repository project? Fortunately I don’t have to do it all at once! It does seem overwhelming, but as long as I don’t try to tackle too many things in one day, it always seems to sort itself out.
Bonnie suggested some directions of exploration for my plaited-twill plight, and also some ideas for networked 5-shaft satin on 15 shafts. More stuff that I plan to explore tomorrow – I had intended to go riding but the weather here in the Bay Area has been very rainy, so I will likely be stuck indoors. I may do an hour or two on the trainer indoors.
Monday I start training again for AIDS Lifecycle. I’m still having coughing fits, but it’s the beginning of February – four months will be barely enough to train as it is! So I am going to the gym on Monday and Wednesday, doing an hour on the trainer on Tuesday and Friday, and Saturday and Sunday I’ll go for a pair of 20-mile (1.5-hour) rides on gentle terrain. That should be enough to start with. Hopefully it won’t aggravate the remaining bronchitis.
