Names for the weaving social network

Claudia and I have been playing around with domain names for the weavers’ social network.  So far the ones we like are:

  • warpnweave
  • weavingvillage
  • weavolution
  • weavinguniverse

Which of those is your favorite?  Any other suggestions?

I too like weavingvillage best because it sesems to be most descriptive of what you are trying to do. Glad you are giving us a chance to give feedback!

Here’s my two cents’ worth. I think warpnweave is awkward to say, and weavolution is confusing to me (though no more confusing than Ravelry, and I’ve gotten used to that). Weaving village and weaving universe are both nice; village sounds cosier. But the short version of that is “the village” (as in, “I saw your project on the Village”) and I don’t know if that’s distinctive enough.

What about the Weaving Shed? Although goats live in sheds, don’t they? Hmmm. If it was a bar I’d call it the Weaver’s Draft; if it was a dance club, maybe Reels and Heddles. Oh, wait, I’m getting silly.

Weaving Village is probably just fine. It seems just a little flat, though I can’t really come up with anything better.

This sounds like a wonderful project. Weavers have been trying to fit themselves into Ravelry but it’s hard; the crafts are just too different for the templates to work. I’m very excited that you’re doing this.

    Hello Tien,
I just found out about your blog and your exciting project! I like the WeavingVillage name too, but also Cynthia’s suggestion of the WeavingShed or even WeaveShed since that is the name we use over here for the big room full of looms…
    All good wishes

    my 2 cents.
Sorry to differ, but to me weavolution conveys energy and motion.
Maybe weaving village or weaving shed would discourage weavers that are on the cutting edge and it would be a loss.

i’m very excited about all this and will blog about it.

I like “weavolution” as well! The name denotes action. It is so exciting to think about a weaver’s site like this. There certainly aren’t as many blogs about weaving as there are knitting, ( I do love both), and such a site would help expand the world of weaving online.
Good luck with getting this project set up.

I also vote for Weavolution. It has weave-evolution of course, but also a hint of WE-evolution that I think is fun. I don’t suppose you would have time to make chocolates for a fundraiser? I loved the ones from the last Lifecycle. Good luck on the project!
