My Workshop Dobby loom has started popping cables and (consequently) dropping shafts. Can’t figure out why. Going to call AVL either this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
Dyed the blue and purple cotton yarn last night – going to do the orange and red today. I’m not quite sure whether I’ll do orange and red or orange and pink – the red looks gorgeous but may not have enough value contrast to stand out in the doubleweave. If I do a dilute fuchsia it may come out looking great. More to think about!
Meanwhile, I have been continuing to try wrapping my head around doubleweave. Bonnie sent me an article she wrote for Complex Weavers that explains an alternate way of approaching doubleweave, but it’s fairly dense and given my lack of overall experience, it’s taking me a fair amount of time and head-scratching to understand it. Nonetheless it looks really useful, so I’m persevering.
Tomorrow my (work) team is coming to my place for an offsite, which means I’m spending all of tonight cleaning. The place won’t be perfect, but at least it should be cleaner by the time they arrive!

My article, Double Weave on a Divided Parallel Threading, is in Complex Weavers Journal, February 2007. Placing one layer on the first half of your shafts makes it much easier to understand and design tie-ups for double weave, with separate layers (tubes, double width) and with patterns created by exchanging layers.
