Broken bobbin winder, and Akha weaving

I am pleased to announce that, after nearly seven years, I have FINALLY gotten up the photos of my weaving/spinning study with the Akha hilltribe in northern Thailand!  It’s at https://tienchiu.com/travels/thailand/akha-weaving/.  I hope you enjoy it – the four days I spent there were one of the best parts of my trip, and it was neat taking a trip down memory lane.  (I’ve also gotten the rest of my Thailand photos up.)

Small hiccup in my weaving plans: my double-ended electric bobbin winder died yesterday.  So it is in the shop, and they say they should have it fixed sometime today.  Meanwhile, my loom is silent.  (I do have a manual bobbin winder, but I am NOT going to try filling a pirn with 120/2 silk yarn!  I’d be winding FOREVER.)

However, that’s not a bad thing, as I’m going off to buy a new laptop!  I had promised myself one when I had a new job again, and having landed the job, I ordered a new Thinkpad X200 laptop from Lenovo.  Then I saw one advertised on Craigslist for considerably less (still under 3-year warranty!), so I’m going to meet the guy and check out the laptop this morning.  If it checks out, it will be time to start migrating and installing software, which will take a good chunk of today.  So I am not too sorry to have time for things other than weaving!
