Christmas ornaments

My mother has a tradition, every year, of making Christmas ornaments with friends and family.  The first weekend in December, she brings out the satin balls, the sequins, the fancy trim, the beads, pins, and laces – everything you would want to make a beautifully decorated Xmas ornament.  Then they spend the next couple of hours making fabulous ornaments to take home for the tree.  (My mother only keeps one ornament every year – after 30 years of this the tree is virtually covered with beautiful bejeweled ornaments!)

Normally I miss this, since I don’t fly out until just before Christmas.  But this year, we decided to have a little mini-ornament workshop with just a few friends.  And here is the result:

And here is a closeup of mine:

My Christmas ornament
My Christmas ornament. Does that gold-and-white "ribbon" look familiar?

Yes, I cut a piece from the eternity knot fabric scraps that were left over after making the purse, and bordered it with fine gold ribbon.  The crown of gold at the top is because I didn’t quite have enough “ribbon” to go all the way to the top of the ornament, but I think it worked out nicely.
