Muslins

I finished sewing up the latest batch of muslins tonight:

coat muslin - 12-18-09

dress muslin 12-18-09

(Ignore the fact that the coat muslin has two colors – I just ran out of blue fabric before hitting the sleeves.)

Overall, I’m pleased.   The coat goes on gracefully over the dress, and while I think it might have too  much flare at the bottom, that’s easily adjusted if I change my mind.  The dress has some fitting and design issues, but as we’re only on the second muslin, that’s not too surprising.  We’ll do some refining tomorrow.

The interesting question in these photos actually has nothing to do with the muslins.  Should I wear my hair up, or down?  I am leaning towards wearing it up, so I can show off that lovely neckline on the coat, but then, the long hair looks nice with the off-the-shoulder dress.  I guess I’ll just have to try it both ways.  🙂

I have asked the powers that be at HGA whether it might not be possible to send in the dress late, if it’s accepted.  No clue what they’ll say, but I’m content either way: getting the dress done by the entry deadline would mean working my tail off for the next two months, so there’s definitely a silver lining if they say no!

Tomorrow, a bit more weaving – also, sewing a pair of evening bags as gifts.  One’s for my father’s wife, one’s for my sister-in-law.  Both in silk – one gold with olive/brown accent, one champagne with white accent.  I’ve never done purses before, but the pattern doesn’t look that complicated, thank goodness!

    Lovely, Lovely. Two thoughts….
    1. If HWG doesn’t let you show your dress, they are denying all of us.

    2. Is is possible to wear your hair up during the ceremony and then let it down for the reception? Or perhaps I don’t understand how your wedding is to be formatted?

I think hair up would be more flattering. Why don’t you show us a photo with your hair up—and wearing the muslin?

both of them are *beautiful*. I love the neckline on the coat too. I did notice the wrinkles on the sleeves since I just went through trying to refit something for myself with the same problem, perhaps the sleeve+coat body is a bit too wide at that point? Even light shoulder pads might help too, I stick them in everything. I know I’m being fussy, but this is a couture combination, so may as well get it all as perfect as possible. The dress is exquisite, very romantic. Can’t wait to see them in the gorgeous fabric you wove!

I’m with the poster who said wear your hair up/down at the wedding ceremony itself, and the opposite with the reception. You have gorgeous long hair, I’d show it off somewhere along the line!

Judith has said it far better than I – the lines of the coat are very attractive and I love the drape.

And yes – if at all possible, hair up at ceremony and down at party/reception!
