It occurred to me that switching out the type of fiber gave me an opportunity to switch the dyes as well. Cibacron F will work on silk, of course, but so will Lanaset acid dyes, and I have a much bigger palette of dyed samples with Lanaset than with Cibacron F.
So, I selected a big pile of color chips from my Lanaset samples:
And I selected a palette of twenty colors – ten in the warp and ten in the weft:
The column on the right is the Cibacron F colors I used originally. I am planning to use them in the burned-0ut layer, so I laid them next to the Lanaset chips to make sure they were compatible.
So those are the twenty colors I’m going to use. Now I just have to wind the warp and mix up the first ten colors to paint the warp! Then (after threading) I will do some sampling to get the length of each weft shot correct, then create and paint the knitted blank. If I get everything right, it should come out “just so”.

That is a great way to organize your dye colors. I use those plastic cards for broken warps and weight them. That way you can see what your color your fiber is without using the pictures they provide. I’m Working towards getting a dye area and will use your method! good luck with the new job!
