New gig!

My Secret Project is complete! After three months of job-hunting, today I accepted an offer from Skybox Imaging, a startup in Mountain View. I’ll be coordinating five software teams as well as improving processes across the company – a perfect match for my professional interests.

As an additional bonus, Skybox is doing The Coolest Stuff Ever. At least, it’s doing the coolest stuff I’ve seen since I came to the Valley over a decade ago. They are doing high-resolution satellite imagery – which is only mildly interesting until you realize that they are building the satellites themselves!! They are making small satellites about the size of a dorm fridge, from off-the-shelf parts, and writing all the software to control the satellite, fly it, and download the data. This is so infinitely cool I can’t even begin to tell you how cool it is. So I am super excited about this position. So thrilled, in fact, that I can’t sleep and am writing blog posts instead. 🙂

I’ll be starting at Skybox on May 28. I can hardly wait!

Refrigerators in the sky. It reminds me of the old favorite screen saver: toasters in the sky. Of course, I understand they’re much more than refrigerators. And congratulations. You’re rather an amazing person with all the things you do. I’m awed.
