A red-letter day for gay rights

Normally I keep this blog apolitical, but I’m a huge supporter of gay rights, so I just have to spread the word: in a Supreme Court double-header, both DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act) and California’s Prop 8 (a constitutional amendment to prohibit gay marriage) have both been struck down!

The full opinions can be read here: striking down DOMA, striking down Prop 8.

Now my many gay friends, coworkers, and mentors can have their marriages federally recognized, and my gay neighbors in California can get married.

What a wonderful day!!

My sisters-in-law got married in California during the brief window when it was legal (At SF City Hall, too). I am glad that their marriage is finally recognized!!
