Yesterday I went to see “Hot Couture” at The Crucible. The Crucible is a nonprofit craft school specializing in “industrial arts and crafts” – particularly anything requiring fire (blacksmithing, jewelry-making, glassworking). So, of course, “Hot Couture 2016” was not just a wildly impressive fashion show, but a joyous, thunderous celebration of fire and light.
Here are a few photos from Hot Couture, mostly taken by my critique partner, Lieven Leroy of Subversive Photography. (The dominatrix with flaming bullwhip was particularly impressive – the photo doesn’t capture the incredible dynamism of her show.)
And here is a video of the finale. Flamenco dancing – with fire!
So, I wonder if the fire dancer was a Flamenco dancer or fire dancer first? I never would have thought to put the two together!
I’m guessing Flamenco – once you got that down, you’re just handling two fiery fans. But of course I don’t really know…
