Off to Davis!

Leaving in about fifteen minutes to go to Davis…way excited!  Lorri has put together a time chart for me and I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to complete the 200 miles.  I hadn’t realized the last rest stop stays open until past midnight!  For some reason I had thought the route shut down by around 10pm.  With the extra time, I think I’ll be able to do it.

I’ve also borrowed a light from Lorri that should last longer than my Vega.  The Vega’s cute, light, and self-contained, but it only lasts four hours on its conservative power setting, and that won’t be long enough.  So I’m borrowing Lorri’s, which lasts up to six hours.  I may bring the Vega along just in case I need more than that – I don’t think I will, but if I’m out until 1am I might.  Better to carry an extra 4-6 ounces than to have to stop because I ran out of light (doh!).

I have piles of energy gels (Lorri provided me with buckets of GU), butt balm, little baggies of Cytomax drink powder, and so on.  I have an extra jersey and pair of cycling shorts I can pick up at the lunch stop.  I’ve been over my packing list at least half a dozen times.

On to Davis! (and, on to Markleeville!)

With all the intensive cycling you’re doing, you could probably barbell squat at least 250 lbs. in the gym!

Hey Tien, Good luck on Davis. Sounds like you have done all the right things and have a great coach to boot. I’m gearing up for a big mem. day weekend and if your coach is lorri lown then i will meet her in Sebastapol for the training with menlo swim and sport club, http://www.menloswim.com/menlo/bike_tours/

I’ve never done 300 miles in 3 days so looking forward to what’s in store. can’t wait to check out your results from Davis.
