Remember the book? Or had it fallen out of your memory, as it had mine?
Well, I stumbled across this website/blog/book yesterday, and it might just be the solution to getting that first draft written. It’s basically about how to write your book as a series of blog posts, getting feedback and building an audience for the book along the way. This appeals to me for a number of reasons, the biggest of which is simply this: I am not good at writing in a vacuum. I love to write, but I need to share my writing with other people for it to be meaningful. Otherwise it becomes a chore, and eventually I stop doing it.
So I’m thinking I will start writing a second blog, on a different domain name, for the book. (Don’t worry, I’ll also announce each blog post here, so you can go visit if that particular chapter interests you.)
I’m trying to think of a title for the book, which will also be the domain name. “The Creative Process” is out, since a cybersquatter is trying to sell that domain name – for a mere $20,000 (yikes!). Any thoughts on catchy titles? The book is basically about how to explore different techniques, materials, etc., then turn the explorations into ideas, ideas into designs, and designs into finished products. A brief outline might look like this:
- Generating Ideas
- Going Exploring
- Evaluating your explorations
- Generating ideas
- Making a mood board
- Evaluating themes
- Creating a Design
- Brainstorming Designs
- Refining your Design
- Testing your Design
- What questions do you have about your design?
- Sampling – Get your design questions answered
- Planning your construction
- Making the piece
- Managing risk and troubleshooting
- Celebrate the Finish
- Retrospectives
So…any ideas for a catchy title that isn’t taken?

This sounds like a JOURNEY to me…..starting at a point with nothing….ahhhhhhhhh an idea then progresses up and down avenues creatively to an ending point with journey reflections or new inspiration( which might be the idea for a new ADVENTURE—hmmmmmmmmmm I like that an adventure can be complete but a journey…never. I will think on this some more… I have always told students that it is in the ‘NOT KNOWING’ one creates …letting what is within —without — All is acceptable because it leads somewhere… now that is catchy ‘WITHIN—WITHOUT!”
Thirty spokes share the wheel’s hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes which make it useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.

I will think some more on it….although I am certain you have some creative thoughts on the topic for you are quite brilliant! Oh on another matter –live weight tension….my system is better but still not operating independently –‘of me…..of course! I am also glad to see your blog is coming through…to my email… jmk

Throwing some ideas out . . . Inspired by The Creative Process . . . what about Creative Prospects? I like the potential for mining puns:) Delving into the process . . . digging for ideas . . . okay, maybe not. What about . . . Art Work? Artful Codger . . . oops, no that’s me. Creative License, Idea Craft, Crafting the Process . . . good luck!!
