More playing with muslins

Work’s been busy and I’ve mostly been packing when not working or sleeping, but I have made a little progress on the coat.  I’m now on the third muslin for the panel style coat – the first had WAY too much ease, the second was a trifle tight across the bust, and I’m about to cut out the third muslin, which should be in between. I’ll post photos of the second muslin once B. gets home and can photograph me in it.

I also had to alter the two piece sleeve – the seam of the sleeve was clearly visible from the front, very unattractive.  I chopped about an inch off the straight side of the sleeve bottom and added it to the sleeve top, slashing as needed and restoring seam allowances afterwards.  The resulting sleeve looks a  lot better.

There are a few other alterations that need to be made, but overall I am very pleased.  It looks much better than the flared coats, and will match the stripes better than the princess seam.  If this muslin seems close, I’ll make the adjustments directly on the paper pattern and will move on to sewing the “practice” coat.  That will definitely happen after the move.

Eight days to Moving Day!
