New gig!

After a seemingly endless week of waiting, I’m pleased to announce that I have a new job!  I’ll be starting on June 20 at High Wire Press, a division of Stanford University Libraries.  Online access to academic journals is their game.  I’ll be doing program management and business process improvement for them, and I’m really excited.  While I’ve been in the corporate world most of my life, I have strong roots in academia (my mom’s was a biochemist before she retired, my dad an astrophysicist, my uncle a law professor, and my aunt a biochemist), and working to facilitate academic research really appeals to me.  It’s rare in corporate work that you really get a chance to make the world a better place, and here’s an opportunity!  Plus I get to work for Stanford, which is pretty cool in itself.  I spent my freshman year there, and while I decided that Caltech was better suited to me, I still have some fond memories of the place.  High Wire Press isn’t located on the Stanford campus or anything, but the idea of working for my old not-quite-alma-mater tickles my fancy.

The most wonderful thing about the new job is that I’m getting three weeks of vacation again!  My soon-to-be-previous employer only gave employees two weeks of vacation, which was just about enough to visit family once a year.  Getting more vacation means I’ll be able to go to classes and workshops again.  I am SO psyched!  And the new gig sounds exciting.  I can hardly wait!
